Understanding How Our IQ Test Works

The Intelligence Test assesses various aspects of non-verbal intelligence through different types of reasoning, including attention, concentration, learning, formal knowledge, spatial orientation, visuomotor behaviour, recognition memory, operational memory, perception, and cognitive flexibility.

The test consists of 30 items, each proposing a different type of reasoning.

With the aim of enabling interpretive analysis and gathering items with related reasoning, the 30 items are classified into 4 groups.

Basic Relations

This group includes items involving reasoning of addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, seriation, and spatial orientation. In these items, only one type of reasoning is present, typically acquired during the development process.

Specific Relations

This group includes items involving reasoning specific to certain types of learning, such as set theory, element identity, quantity concept, complex addition, and simple combination, resulting from the formal acquisition process. What characterises these items is that they may involve more than one type of reasoning.

Gestalt Relations

This group includes items with reasoning related to Gestalt theory and general principles and laws related to visuomotor development, such as the law of Closure, Figure and Ground, Superposition, and Part/Whole relationships; thus, they are neurophysiologically common to all humans.

Complex Relations

This group includes items requiring more complex reasoning, involving multiple types of reasoning and requiring perception, attention, learning, and therefore cognitive flexibility.
